Arlington Water Utilities is celebrating National Energy Action Month during October by providing WaterSense-labeled showerheads to residents wanting to make the switch to a more water efficient shower. Showering accounts for nearly 17 percent of residential indoor water use, or about 30 gallons of water per household, per day.
During October, which is also the EPA's Shower Better Month, Arlington residents can take their old showerheads to the following locations and obtain a free, water efficient showerhead in exchange. Limit two per household.
- All month at the Lake Arlington Branch, Arlington Public Library
- 4000 W. Green Oaks Blvd., Arlington, TX 76016
- 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Oct. 21, EcoFest, Water Utilities booth.
- 100 W Abram St. Arlington, TX 76010
Switching to a WaterSense-labeled showerhead, which uses less than 2 gallons a minute, will save the average family 2,900 gallons of water per year, or the amount it takes to wash 70 loads of laundry. With less energy required to heat shower water, families can save enough electricity to run the television for more than a year, or to power an entire home for 13 days! The differences could result in saving more than $70 in annual energy and water costs.
