U.S. Rep. Marc Veasey Introduces Legislation to Protect Transit Services
Congressman Marc Veasey, TX-33, has introduced a bill to restore federal funding for Handitran and other programs like it that provide transportation services for disabled and elderly residents.
H.R. 1645, the Transportation for Elderly and Disabled Individuals Act, would reinstate an allowance for cities such as Arlington, Grand Prairie, and Mesquite, Texas to use federal transit funding for operation and maintenance costs for transit services.
On Thursday, April 2, 2015, the Congressman met with City officials to discuss this proposed legislation. During his visit, he boarded a Handitran route to learn more about how the program benefits clients, like Ruth Raggs who is an Arlington resident. She relies on Handitran six days a week to get to and from medical appointments and her part-time job.
