The City of Arlington is making dreams come true for disabled veterans throughout the community.

A ribbon cutting was held Friday, May 29, 2015 in Arlington to announce the availability of two new singe-family homes for veterans with disabilities.

This comes one month after U.S. Air Force veteran Dina Kaswatuka realized her American Dream when she received the keys to a new home in Arlington, in part because of City HOME Investment Partnership funds.

The Development Corporation of Tarrant County, a non-profit, Community Housing Development Organization, has constructed two new homes, which are available to purchase by qualified veterans.

Both homes offer full ADA amenities including accessible doors, bath rooms including roll in showers, grab bars, special cabinets to accommodate wheel chairs, and energy saving features.

Wells Fargo Bank has provided funds for the addition of solar energy panels, rain barrels, and hybrid water heaters so families will be able to afford home ownership in these Energy Star 3 rated homes.

History Makers Homes donated construction management to ensure compliance with ADA standards, including donated materials and labor.

The City has provided HOME Investment Partnership funds and HOME proceeds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to assist in constructing the homes.

Both homes are located in central Arlington, close to schools, hospitals, and are part of the Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Area as indicated in the City of Arlington Consolidated Plan.
