Arlington Public Library’s Star Wars Extravaganza Returns Nov. 5, 2016
The Arlington Public Library's 2nd annual Star Wars Extravaganza will return from 12-2 p.m. on Saturday, November 5th at the Southwest Branch Library in Arlington. The event is family friendly and free to all who attend.
Morgan Brickey, the library's community outreach and programming librarian let me in on how this event got started. "This program started because I had received some new Star Wars books and wanted a cool way to give them away," Brickley said.
"After the program last year I went home and watched all of the original movies and since then I've seen the prequels and the newest installation. It's a great family-friendly movie experience and I think that Star Wars and the library are a great fit!"
Brickley further explains that the library loves holding events based on some of their materials such as ArlingCon, Teddy Bear Carnival, special Holiday story times, and more. "We love to have events that can engage the whole family" says Morgan.
This year the library has added a costume contest to the event, which is open to participants of all ages. A secret Star Wars themed prize will be given to first, second, and third place costumes.
Don't worry, If you don't win big in the costume contest, you can still go home with some great Star Wars memorabilia. There will be 3 family-friendly make and take crafts for visitors as well as Star Wars themed games, trivia and photo booth. Perhaps the most futuristic part of the event will be the library's new 3-D printer, which will be printing Star Wars memorabilia for all of the participants.
Morgan says that she hopes the library can find a larger venue for next year's event so that even more people can enjoy this fun day for Star Wars fans of all ages.
