Arlington Regains 50th Most Populous City Title, According to U.S. Census Estimates
The Viridian master planned community in north Arlington is an example of Arlington' s residential housing growth.
Arlington has rejoined the list of the 50 most populous cities, displacing Cleveland, according to estimates released today by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Arlington' s estimated population exceeds 382,000 people, according to the Census website.
"Arlington offers so many reasons for families to choose to make the city their home. Our neighborhoods, which include a variety of housing options, are connected with quality schools and amenities such as parks and libraries that create thriving communities. Arlington is also centrally located in the Dallas-Fort Worth region, making it easier for residents to find good-paying jobs to support their families," Marketing Communications Manager Jay Warren said. "It' s not surprising that the American Dream City continues to grow."
Census estimates also show Texas is home to five of the nation' s 11 fastest-growing cities: Georgetown, Pflugerville, New Braunfels, Frisco and Pearland.
Georgetown saw its population rise 7.8 percent between July 1, 2014, and July 1, 2015, making it the nation' s fastest-growing city with a population of 50,000 or more, according to U.S. Census Bureau estimates.
Georgetown is part of the Austin-Round Rock metro area, which crossed the 2 million population threshold in 2015 for the first time, according to statistics released earlier this year. This metro area is also home to Pflugerville, the nation' s 11th fastest-growing large city.
Texas also has five of the eight cities that added the most people over the time between July 1, 2014 and July 1, 2015: Austin, Houston, San Antonio, Fort Worth and Dallas. Austin itself added more people over the period (19,000) than all but seven other U.S. cities.
