Symphony Arlington Presents Pianist Lindsay Garritson

Classical music fans can rejoice this week as pianist Lindsay Garritson arrives at Arlington Music Hall in Downtown for a concert Thursday, May 7. Garritson has performed throughout the U.S. and abroad since the age of four. An award-winning performer, she has received top prizes at the 2011 Montreal International Piano Competition, the 2011 Yale Woolsey Concerto Competition, the St. Louis Artist Presentation Society, the Connecticut Music Teachers Young Artist Competition, and the Van Cliburn Competition. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are still available online.

Hurricane Harbor Opening Weekend

From speed slides to relaxing pools, Arlington residents will be happy to hear that Hurricane Harbor' s Opening Weekend has finally arrived. The water park will be open both Saturday and Sunday, May 9-10 from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Be sure to check the latest forecast using the City' s Weatherbug before you head out. Simply click on the icon found on our home page. Spend the day zooming down the newest adventure slides, or just kick back in the sun and relax on the sand with your friends. There are plenty of great snacks, cool tunes, and friendly faces to make this a beach vacation you' ll never forget!

28th Annual Texas Scottish Festival & Highland Games

The three-day international festival of Scottish culture at UTA' s Maverick Stadium includes Celtic music, dancing and art with Scottish food. There will also be athletic and brewing contests. Professional Scottish athletes will also make appearances. Market stalls show off Scottish and Celtic wares, from kilts and tartans to artisan Celtic jewelry and art. The 28th annual event runs from 5 p.m. to midnight on Friday, 9 a.m. to midnight on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets can be purchased online. Maverick Stadium in Arlington is located at 1307 West Mitchell St.

CATS Presents "Goldilocks" by Matt Casarino

The CATS (Creative Arts Theatre & School) production of "Goldilocks" by Matt Casarino opens May 8 at the CATS Black Box, 602 E. South Street. The show, designed for younger audiences and performers, will play two weekends, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 pm, and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 pm. Tickets are $8-$10 and are available at www.creativearts.org or by calling 817-861-2287. All patrons, including babies and toddlers, must purchase a ticket. No "lap children" permitted. Presented by an all-youth cast, this short comedy will delight audiences. As a special treat, Saturday night audiences will also see a short musical performance by CATS' touring group, Caleidoscope.

Arlington Public Library' s Drumming Around Town

Drumming Around Town with Jeromy Bailey is a new monthly library program that gives everyone an opportunity to feel the beat! The monthly drum group will practice outside of a different library location every meeting and feature students from various high schools that are near the participating branch. The free event encourages kids to network with each other in a positive way while promoting music and drumming education. Practice pads and sticks will be provided and virtually no noise interruption for the community. Saturday, May 9 . East Branch Library, 2-3 p.m.
