Runners lace up, as Arlington is proud to announce the Arlington Mayor's 5K: Run the American Dream City.
The 5K is part of a new partnership between the City and Ability Connection Texas. The inaugural "Arlington Mayor's 5K " race will be on Sunday, April 26 starting at Levitt Pavilion in downtown Arlington. This event is part of the Lone Star Race Series presented by Ability Connection Texas.
Event organizers expect more than 2,000 people to run this year's "Arlington Mayor's 5K," which will feature a scenic route that runs through the University of Texas at Arlington. Runners and walkers will start and finish at Levitt Pavilion/Founders Plaza, 100 West Abram Street.
"The American Dream City is the perfect setting for this race, which celebrates the city's qualities and traditions in a fun way," City of Arlington Marketing Communications Manager Jay Warren said. "Not only are we promoting a healthy lifestyle for our residents, we are continuing the strong relationship with our community partners. We encourage everyone to participate to sign up and walk or run for a good cause."
All proceeds from the "Arlington Mayor's 5K " will help Ability Connection Texas provide exemplary service to current clients-children and adults with intellectual and physical disabilities. According to Ability Connection Texas, one in five people will experience a disability in their lifetime.
"We believe everyone has a right to lead their most independent life and shouldn't have to wait 10 to 12 years to do that," said Shea Needham with Ability Connection Texas.
There will be three races on April 26: The Arlington Mayor's 5K, 10K, and the half marathon with a finish festival at Levitt Pavilion where "Arlington Mayor's 5K: Run The American Dream City " branded medals will be awarded based on race results.
If you want to participate in this event but are aren't much of a runner, the Lone Star Race Series is looking for people to join their volunteer team. They need roughly 500 people to help with several tasks, including water stops, packet pick-ups and bag checks.
Dogs and strollers are welcome to join the Arlington Mayor's 5K race and not the 10K or half marathon.
