The UT Arlington softball team held its Gray/Blue Scrimmage at the Allan Saxe Intramural Fields on Thursday afternoon, with the Blue team coming up on top 8-2.
Marisa Datko led the Blue team with three hits and three RBI, while Haley Henson and Britnea Barilli each had four hits and a combined three RBI.
"There was a good offensive effort throughout the game from both teams," UT Arlington coach Kristie Fox said. "One team seemed to string hits together better than the other. We had a pitching performance where somebody came out and did a good job in shutting them down, and somebody that didn't have their best stuff. The goal is to work through those things and we learned a lot about our pitching staff today."
Mya Anderson's two-run homer opened the contest for the Gray going. The Blue squad fought to tie the game in the second before breaking things open with a six-run fourth inning.
The Blue team strung together seven consecutive hits to open the frame, highlighted by Datko's two-run double to left field. Datko finished with three hits in five at-bats.
"I was just trying to be aggressive," Datko said. "We have been scrimmaging for a couple of weeks and I am trying to be as aggressive as possible when I'm at the plate. We are getting more comfortable at the plate."
Taylor Simmonds led all pitchers, as the freshman struck out six in six innings of work. Simmonds picked up five of her strikeouts in the fourth and fifth innings. She allowed just five hits and two runs.
