Tickets on Sale Now for Sixth Annual Jillian M. Smith Masquerade Charity Gala
Tickets are on sale now for the African American Peace Officers Association of Arlington's Sixth Annual Jillian M. Smith Masquerade Charity Gala.
The gala is set for Friday, October 21 at the Cacharel Restaurant and Grand Ballroom, 2221 E. Lamar Blvd. in Arlington.
October is also Domestic Violence Month and this gala will put the spotlight on community efforts to end this violent crime. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one woman is fatally shot by a spouse, ex-spouse or dating partner every 14 hours in America. Members of the AAPOAA are helping to save more lives. Proceeds from this gala will benefit the Officer Jillian M. Smith SafeLiving Fund, which provides programs and services to the survivors of domestic violence in Tarrant County.
On Oct. 21, guests will enjoy dinner and dancing. It's a masquerade theme, so wear your favorite mask. The evening also includes a cash bar and casino-styled games and prizes including a chance to win a tailgate party pass to a Rangers Game and access to a luxury suite at AT&T Stadium for a Dallas Cowboys game. Other prizes will include an iPad and spa packages.
Guests will also applaud the great work being accomplished by the SafeHaven of Tarrant County. Since the Officer Jillian M. Smith SafeLiving Fund was established in 2015, $3,000 has been given to the nonprofit. SafeHaven operates the largest and most comprehensive domestic violence shelters in Tarrant County.
The AAPOAA has also given thousands of dollars in scholarships to Arlington area graduating seniors pursuing careers in law enforcement.
"This year's Gala promises to be an evening of fun and support for an exceptional cause," said Deputy Chief Latesha Watson, event chairwoman. "At the same time, we'll be honoring the memory of a public servant who lost her life to domestic violence. We remain committed to doing all we can to help those who are impacted in this tragic way."
Tickets are $50 a person or guests can purchase a table for $500.
