Nearly two weeks after the severe storm on October 2, City of Arlington and Republic Services crews have picked up roughly 2000 tons of storm debris from residents. But, the work is far from done.
"This was a big storm that impacted all areas of the City," said Arlington Public Works and Transportation Director Keith Melton. "Our crews are working as hard as they can to get everything picked up. But, due to the volume of the debris it takes time."
Republic Services has added multiple trucks to its routes to help with cleanup. Still, Melton said the amount of debris coupled with the regular trash collection Republic is conducting means some debris will not be picked up on your regular collection day.
" With a storm of this size, it's going to take time for us to get everything cleared. We appreciate everyone's patience and willingness to work with us to get things back to normal," Melton said.
Republic Services has done several other things to help residents with storm cleanup, including:
- Curbside Pickup: Republic Services will continue to pick up unbundled tree limbs and fence panels curbside in residential neighborhoods through Oct. 18, unless more time is needed. Please make sure limbs and panels are no longer than 4 feet and are in piles roughly 3' x 3' x 3'.
- Trash Drop-off at Landfill: Residents have through Saturday, Oct. 11, to drop off storm debris (tree limbs and fence panels only) free of charge at the Arlington Landfill. During this time, no coupon is required; however, citizens will need to provide proof of residency with a current driver's license or water bill. After Oct. 11, residents will need to either use their free landfill coupons or pay the regular residential landfill rate. To reach the landfill, call 817-354-2305.
Melton said all debris will be picked up and he hopes that is complete by the end of next week.
