Properly dispose of prescription and over-the-counter drugs during National Drug Take-Back

The City of Arlington is participating in a National Drug Take-Back initiative. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) encourages governments all across the country to be available for people to properly dispose of unused and unwanted prescription drugs that have collected in their homes. On Saturday, April 27, 2013 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., Arlington residents will be able to drop off prescription drugs at each of the four Arlington police district stations.

Expired and unused medications - both prescription and over-the-counter - require proper disposal. If left in homes, they could result in improper use or abuse. Throwing them away with regular trash or flushing them down the toilet creates additional hazards. As a result, the DEA organizes National Drug Take-Back events twice a year. The Arlington Police Department and Arlington Water Utilities have partnered to ensure that drop-off locations are available for our residents on Saturday.

All controlled, non-controlled and over-the-counter medications are accepted in the Drug Take-Back initiative. That includes all liquid and solid pharmaceutical products. However, we cannot accept intravenous solutions, injectables or syringes. Illicit substances, such as marijuana and methamphetamine, are also not accepted.
