Every year, the Arlington MLK Celebration Committee searches for the very best in original art and literature. Cash prizes and scholarships are awarded to the winning submissions. This year's theme is"Continuing The Dream: Moving Toward Unity, Justice and Peace."
"The Arlington Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Committee is looking forward to seeing how our community's youth interpret Dr. King's impact on our society today through essays and art work," Publicity Chair Cheryel Carpenter said.
The competitions are open to youth who reside in the city limits of Arlington. The Essay Competition is open to high school seniors. Students enrolled in private schools and charter school in Arlington are also welcome to submit. The entry deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, 2017. Judging will take place in December and winners will be formally recognized during the Arlington MLK Four-Day Celebration, which starts Jan. 12, 2018.
