The City of Arlington has detected four new positive West Nile Virus (WNV) mosquito samples in the following locations:

• E. Road to Six Flags near Ballpark Way
• E. Mayfield Road near New York Avenue
• Douglas Court near N. Cooper Street
• Forestwood Drive near NE Green Oaks Boulevard

The City will begin targeted ground spraying on Tuesday, September 30, from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., weather permitting. An ultra-low volume application of Permanone RTU, an oil-based Permethrin will be used. The targeted ground spraying follows recommendations from the City of Arlington Health Authority, Tarrant County Public Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Vector Disease Control.

Employees and contractors have and will continue to be proactive by conducting routine trapping and larviciding in strategic locations throughout the City. Targeted ground spraying will only occur in areas where WNV positive trapping has occurred.

Arlington residents are also reminded to enjoy the outdoors, but to remember the Four D's:

• Dusk and dawnare the times of day you should try to stay indoors. This is when infected mosquitoes are most active.
• Dress in long sleeves and pants when you're outside. For extra protection, you may want to spray thin clothing with repellent.
• DEET is an ingredient to look for in your insect repellent. Follow label instructions, and always wear repellent when outdoors.
• Drainstanding water in your yard and neighborhood where mosquitoes can breed. This includes old tires, flowerpots, clogged rain gutters, etc. Mosquitoes may develop in any water stagnant for more than three or four days.
