Arlington Animal Services is still working to find homes for three remaining cats who were relocated from southeast Texas shelters because of Hurricane Harvey.
The SPCA of Texas transferred 10 cats to the Arlington shelter earlier this month and seven of those cats have since been adopted.
One of those lucky kitties was Timber, a small orange and white domestic shorthair who was adopted September 8 by Arlington resident Rita Garza.
Garza originally went into the Arlington Animal Services Center to pick up paperwork for her other adopted cat. While waiting, she took the opportunity to look at the other cats up for adoption.
"When I found out he was a Hurricane Harvey refugee cat from Houston and saw how playful he is, I immediately told myself, I want to take Timber home," Garza said. "My kids are going to love him!"
The remaining adoptable cats have labeled "Disaster Response" on their I.D. cards and if adopted, they each come with a choice of cat toy donated by the SPCA of Texas, Arlington Animal Services manager Chris Huff said.
The Hurricane Harvey relocated cats remaining at the Arlington Animal Services Center include Windy, a brown/black 2-year-old female, Madeline, a brown/black 4-year-old female, and James, a black/white 2-year-old male.
