College Gridiron Showcase

The Dallas Cowboys are preparing for next season, but you can still check out some great football this weekend right here in The American Dream City! The College Gridiron Showcase is an all-star game that gives college athletes the opportunity to present their talents for scouts from the NFL, CFL and AFL. It will take place on Saturday, January 31 at UTA's Maverick Stadium in Arlington, TX. Kickoff for the event is at 1:30 p.m. and gates open at 12:30 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on Comcast Sports Network and can be seen on North Texas Sports Network. Tickets are $10 and children under the age of 5 get into the game for free. For more information on how to purchase tickets for the game, please visit the UTA Online Ticket office.

Daddy Daughter Dance

The Arlington Parks and Recreation Department's annual "Daddy Daughter Dance" is back and this year's theme is Disney's Frozen! The dance will take place on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 30-31) at the Bob Duncan Center on Center Street. Friday night's dance will be from 7-9 p.m. and there will be two dances on Saturday, one from 4-6 p.m. and another dance from 7-9 p.m. It is important for you to know there is road construction on Center Street by Bob Duncan. Arlington Parks and Recreation recommends taking Mayfield Road to Center Street and then go northbound on Center to Bob Duncan. This year's event will include light appetizers and desserts, dancing, arts and crafts. There will be an early entry of 10 minutes to all dances.

Experience Arlington Cinema

Come check out the cinema work by some of The American Dream City's own filmmakers! Experience Arlington Cinema is a program this Friday, January 30 at 7 p.m. at the UTA Fine Arts Building/Film Theater. It's being sponsored by the Arlington Film Society and the UT Arlington Student Film/Video Organization. The program will feature six short films created by students in the Arlington Independent School District, UTA SFVO, and Arlington Filmmaker Ya'Ke Smith. Smith, also a professor at UTA, wrote and produced "Dawn" which also premieres on HBO this weekend. HBO subscribers can watch "Dawn" on HBO GO starting February 1. The film will also be shown throughout the year on the various networks of HBO. Seating is limited for this free event and RSVP is required.

Friday Night Films Series by UTA's Excel Campus Activities

Looking for something cheap and fun in Arlington the whole family can enjoy? UT Arlington EXCEL Campus Activities presents its long-running feature film series in the University Center Rosebud Theatre this Friday, January 30. The first movie in this year's film series is Disney's Big Hero 6, an animated movie based on the popular Marvel Comics series. The movie tells the story of brilliant young robotics whiz Hiro Hamada who forms a special bond with his robot companion Baymax. Free popcorn is provided with admission (while supplies last) and other concessions will be on sale. Ticket sales begin one hour prior to show time. Each movie starts at 8 p.m. and is just $1 for students, faculty/staff and the general public ($1.50 with credit card).

Arlington Museum of Art Presents: Bruce Wood, A Retrospective

The Arlington Museum of Art now features a special exhibit featuring Fort Worth's own Bruce Wood. Wood has been a driving force in the North Texas cultural community for decades. His latest venture, Bruce Wood Dance Project, sought to bring innovative, unconventional productions to North Texas audiences. This exhibit will explore his contributions to the world of dance, the cultural arts and the communities he grew up in. The Bruce Wood exhibit will be open to the public until Sunday, February 15. If you want to check it out this weekend, the Arlington Museum of Art is located in Downtown Arlington on West Main Street.
