Congratulations to all participants who made the 2014 Book-It for Literacy 5K/1 Mile Fun Run in Arlington a huge success. This annual fundraiser took place on September 6, 2014.

Up at dawn, almost beating the sun, participants arrived at River Legacy Park to run for literacy. In total, an estimated $6,000 was raised to support Arlington Public Library's literacy programs.

The fastest running times clocked in at 18 minutes, 29 seconds for Steve Purser and 20 minutes, 21 seconds for Kisha Littrell, the overall male and female first finishers, respectively.

All runners received commemorative T-shirts, with first-place finishers in various age categories receiving prizes. Finishing times ranged from just under 20 minutes to more than an hour, a testament to the determination of all participants.

Arlington Public Library's TechLiNK also attended the fun run, providing computer and internet access (and much-appreciated air-conditioning). All attendees had the opportunity to sign up for the race and check results using this mobile technology resource.

Arlington Reads, the literacy program of the Arlington Public Library, in partnership with the APL Foundation, sponsors the event to raise awareness and support for its adult, youth, and early childhood literacy programs.
