All of Arlington's professional sports teams are joining the rest of our community from nonprofit groups, City of Arlington Fire and Police personnel, churches and residents, in stepping forward to assist the communities along the Gulf Coast region as they struggle with the catastrophic aftereffects of Hurricane Harvey.
Texas Rangers
The Texas Rangers will host the Los Angeles Angels in a three-game series at Globe Life Park beginning tomorrow night. Ten percent of ticket sales revenue 10 percent of merchandise sales from those games will be donated to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. The club will also hold a hurricane donation drive for all three games. Bottled water, diapers, new blankets, and toiletries/hygiene products for the hurricane victims will be collected at the Home Plate, First Base, Third Base, and Center Field gates at Globe Life Park on Friday from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Saturday from 3 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.; and Sunday from 12 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.
In addition, Delaware North and its Globe Life Park concessionaire, Arlington Sportservice today announced an additional fundraising effort for hurricane relief. Donations will be taken at all concession stands and kiosks as well as the Capital One Club, Jack Daniel's Club, and Rebecca Creek Saloon during all three games this weekend. Delaware North will then match the donations collected up to $50,000.
Dallas Wings
Arlington's WNBA team, the Wings, will hold their final regular season home game Sunday, September 3. The Wings have partnered with Dallas Women's Foundation to support agencies across North Texas who are providing relief for families impacted by Hurricane Harvey. The Dallas Women's Foundation has established a Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. All donations to the fund, including funds raised by the Dallas Wings, will be used for grants to agencies in North Texas who are actively involved in Hurricane relief efforts. The Wings will donate a portion of the profit from each ticket sold for the September 3 game to the fund and will encourage all Wings fans to join them by donating online and on-site at College Park Center.
"Our hearts are with everyone affected by Hurricane Harvey,' said Wings President and CEO Greg Bibb. "This tragedy has not only impacted our neighbors in Southeast Texas, but has also impacted members of our organization. We want to do everything we can to help those in need and provide an opportunity for our fans to help as well. Teaming up with Dallas Women's Foundation allows us to do that while supporting communities throughout the state of Texas.'
Dallas Cowboys
Dallas Cowboys players, coaches, cheerleaders and mascot Rowdy teamed up with The Salvation Army on Thursday to aid Hurricane Harvey evacuees who are sheltering in North Texas.
Members of the Dallas Cowboys traveled to The Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Center in Dallas to unload approximately 300,000 pieces of apparel donated by the team's merchandise division to those in need.
Clothing items include men's, women's and children's tee shirts, fleece, outerwear and rompers from a variety of brands produced by Dallas Cowboys Merchandise, LTD. The total value of the donation was approximately $500,000.
Cowboys players and personnel unloaded the donated items from the merchandise truck and helped organize the product with the guidance of The Salvation Army's volunteer corps.
Also on Thursday, the Dallas Cowboys will conduct a practice at AT&T Stadium from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. that will feature Cowboys players participating in a live telethon accompanying the team's workout. During the practice, fans are encouraged to call in and speak directly to current members of the Cowboys team who will be accepting donation pledges. Dallas Cowboys alumni will also be manning the phones.
Funds raised from the telethon will be dedicated to The Salvation Army for the purpose of supporting the ongoing relief efforts to assist those affected by Hurricane Harvey.
The telethon and the practice will be televised live locally on CBS 11 and in over 20 other markets throughout the southwest. The broadcast of the telethon will also be streamed live on Facebook (Dallas Cowboys) and Periscope (@dallascowboys). Dallas Cowboys players, former players, coaches, front office personnel and ownership will participate in interviews during the broadcast.
The practice will not be open to the public.
