Keeping students in school is integral to their lifelong success as well as the continued prosperity of the Arlington community. For this reason, the Arlington ISD will host an Operation Graduation Walk Saturday, Sept. 13 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The walk is a community effort with the goal of increasing the graduation rate of Arlington high school students.
Volunteers will accompany AISD administrators to drive to the homes of students enrolled in school in spring 2014 but who have not returned to school this fall.
The teams will encourage those students to come back to school, and all Arlington high schools will be open that day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to re-enroll students. Those who can't come to the schools that day will be left with enrollment packets. Volunteers will also visit the homes of at-risk students to encourage them to remain in school.
"Having community support for Operation Graduation is so important because it shows the students that people in Arlington and the AISD care about them and their success," said Dropout Prevention Director Wendy Carrington. "We want these students to know that it is not too late to get a fresh start and that we will support them along the way."
