Zachary Zeiner is an Accomplished Twelve-year Old with Winning Endeavors

Two months of training to compete in a 200 meter swim, a six mile bike ride, and a one mile run can sound daunting to a lot of people, but not to Miller Elementary School sixth grader Zachary Zeiner.

Zachary endured the strenuous undertaking of preparing for and competing in the North Texas Kids Triathlon with 502 other participants on September 16 with a specific goal in mind. His hard work and test of physical endurance was a deliberate personal effort to give back to the community, resulting in a generous donation of $410.

Zachary's proud mom, Tami Zeiner, said, "He chose Arlington Animal Services (AAS) because it is a cause that is dear and personal to him. He wants to provide food and care to homeless or abused animals at the shelter."

Zachary's supporters in the triathlon stretched from coast to coast, from New York to California, and several states in between, such as Connecticut, Virginia, Tennessee, Arizona and California, including several fans from our great state of Texas!

The Zeiners' adopted their yellow Labrador Retriever, Alex, from the shelter six years ago, who is described as a beloved pet that is a very special member of their family.

Zachary has a history of notable achievements. As a third grader at Miller, Zachary was a winner in the 2010 Annual Animal Essay Contest with a delightful, creative essay describing what he thought animals would say if they could talk.

AAS Manager Chris Huff congratulated Zachary for doing such a great job in the race, and expressed sincere appreciation for his thoughtful and challenging way of helping the shelter animals.

"He truly put his heart into this, pushing himself to the limit to achieve this remarkable accomplishment and we are most grateful," said Huff.
