September is National Preparedness Month. This month was created to raise awareness about emergency preparedness. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), along with state and local governments, want to ensure that our citizens have the skills to protect themselves and their families when an emergency happens.
Each week will focus on different steps we can all take to get prepared. From developing an evacuation plan to building an emergency supply kit, the City of Arlington encourages residents to use this month to focus on these priorities to help get our community ready.
- Sept. 1-8 — Make and Practice your plan
- Sep 9- 15 — Learn life-saving skills
- Sept 16- 22 — Check your coverage
- Sept 23-29 — Save for an Emergency
With the events of last year's hurricane season and the current wildfires throughout the country, it is important that our residents learn how to be prepared for different types of emergencies. Families, neighborhoods, businesses and schools are encouraged to spend time communicating and developing their preparedness skills.
