ATC duo recognized by tennis' governing body for dedication to youth tennis
Teaching professional Lisa Osborn of Arlington Tennis Center has been selected to represent north and central Texas on the 10 and Under subcommittee for the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Texas Section. Osborn, a top level teaching professional at ATC, has been serving on the USTA Texas Junior Tennis Council (JTC) since 2008.
Texas leadership tapped Osborn for the five-member 10 and Under subcommittee because of her expertise, knowledge and involvement with Texas tennis, specifically 10 and Under programs. USTA Texas is a national leader in 10 and Under tennis, and the subcommittee will be charged with evaluating the nationally recognized pathway established by USTA Texas in 2011.
Responsibilities will include review of program facts and figures, as well as dialogue with providers and end users (players and parents) and formulating recommended adjustments to enhance growth in 10 and Under programs.
Sheryl Osborn, facility manager at the Arlington Tennis Center, recently received recognition for the second year in a row from the United States Tennis Association for her efforts at ATC in growing tennis in the Arlington community. Specifically, the USTA recognized Osborn for her work with the National Junior Tennis League (NJTL) and Junior Team Tennis (JTT).
Arlington Tennis Center recently opened six 10-and-Under courts, providing an even greater opportunity to expand both NJTL and JTT programs. The ATC was among the first to adopt the new 10 and Under format for youth in Texas. Courts, equipment and scoring are adapted for those new to the game, so they develop skills and have fun right from the start.
"Although these courts are designed for youth, our facility is developing programs for people of all ages to learn the game and improve their skills on these courts,' said Osborn. "Tennis is a lifetime sport and there are many adults that never had a chance to learn, so we want to provide an unintimidating way for them to start playing.'
