Friday: Dawn & Hawkes Concert
Enjoy a night of signature harmonies with Indie/folk sound for free. Miranda Dawn and Chris Hawkes, who appeared on NBC's "The Voice" earlier this season, met dancing at a blues bar in Austin, Texas. After learning they were both songwriters and singers they joined their talent and created a male/female Indie-Folk-Americana duo. Dawn and Hawkes first appeared at the Kerrville Folk Festival in front of a large audience. The concert begins at 8:00 p.m.
Saturday: Deryl Dodd & the Homesick Cowboys Concert
Bring out the lawn chairs, cooler and food during a free night of country music by Derly Dodd & the Homesick Cowboys. Deryl Dodd is a Texas-born musician, singer, songwriter and producer. He began his career in Waco, Texas in 1987. The concert begins at 8:00 p.m.
Sunday: Austin Lounge Lizards
For 33 years, the Lizards have been spoofing the topics American families try to avoid at the Thanksgiving table, such as politics, religion, romance, the music industry and their crazy relatives. With pointed lyrics, precise harmonies and instrumental expertise, the band has become legendary for satirical skewering through song. The concert begins at 8:00 p.m.
American Cancer Society: Relay for Life
Head over to Globe Life Park this Friday to support the teams running in the Relay for Life. Watch the Arlington community come together to honor cancer survivors, gain knowledge on how to reduce the risk of cancer and raise money for cancer research. Admission is free. There will be live entertainment, activities for children, awareness booths and refreshments. Cancer survivors and caregivers will be honored at the event.
City Council Member to Hold First Walking Town Hall Meeting
District 2 City Council Member Sheri Capehart will host the City of Arlington's first walking town hall meeting at S.J. Stovall Park this Saturday. The community will be able to discuss ideas and concerns as they walk through S.J. Stovall Park. The walk will start at 8:00 a.m. Council Member Capehart decided to take her town hall meeting out into the neighborhood as a way of getting a first hand look at the issues that are important to the residents she serves. Deputy City Manager Dr. Theron Bowman will attend the meeting as well.
Celebrate the 2014 Summer Reading Club
Don't miss the Arlington Public Library's festive "My Summer Reading Club" this Saturday at the Arlington ISD Professional Development Center. The community will learn about the Arlington Public Library's new online component, MySRC.org. There will be cool prizes, fun activities for every age, and the library staff will be available to socialize and answer questions about this year's SRC programs. The celebration will continue from 10:30 a.m. till noon.
Theatre Arlington- NUNSENSE
Here's your last chance to see Theatre Arlington's presentation of "Nunsense," a hilarious musical comedy about a fundraiser put on by the Little Sisters of Hoboken to raise money to bury sisters accidentally poisoned by the convent cook. Performances on Friday and Saturday are 8:00 p.m., with Sunday's matinee at 2:00 p.m.
