Tuesday was a great day for the staff and pets at the Arlington Animal Services Center.
That's when a truck carrying 2,500 pounds of pet food being donated by Six Flags pulled into the parking lot. Several staff members and volunteers helped carry the bags of food inside the building.
"We are extremely excited about this opportunity to work with Six Flags," said Animal Services Center Manager Chris Huff. "It's a blessing to receive so much food for animals. It will help our shelter animals, our foster program as well as our community partners like Sponsored Adoptions and the pets of Meals on Wheels participants," she said.
Six Flags employees donated more than 1,600 pounds of pet food, with the remainder of the food coming from guests attending the March 1st Wags and Flags event at the park.
"Six Flags is delighted to be able to help the Arlington Animal Services Center," said Sharon Parker, communications manager for Six Flags. "Giving back is one of the things that Six Flags is all about and this is a perfect partnership for us."
Huff also encourages the community to continue to donate to the shelter. She expects the current donation to last approximately six to eight months.
More than 12,000 animals go through the shelter every year.
