You could win!
Charlotte Anderson Elementary school received a special visit on Monday, December 8, when Council member Sheri Capehart enthusiastically kicked off the annual Animal Essay Contest. She recognized winners of last year's contest and encourages all third through sixth grade students living in Arlington to participate in this year's competition.
Essay topics focus on responsible pet ownership and inspire students to thoughtfully consider topics such as volunteerism at the animal shelter, animal welfare, and pet overpopulation and its effect on our community.
Each year, the contest regularly draws over 1,000 entries. All students residing within Arlington city limits in third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades that attend public, private, or home school are encouraged to submit an original, thoughtful, and creative essay. The essay must be 500 words or less, focusing on multiple elements of effective writing.
Essay entries may be submitted beginning on Monday, January 12, 2015. The deadline for entry is at 5 p.m. on Friday, January 16, 2015.
Each winner will be presented with a Kindle Fire HD made possible by Beacon E&P, and a $100 savings account, compliments of EECU and Beacon E&P.
This year's Animal Essay Contest is sponsored by the City of Arlington Animal Services, the Office of Communication, District 2 City Council member Sheri Capehart and community partners EECU, Star-Telegram, UT Arlington's TRiO Pre-College Programs and Beacon E&P.
Winners will be recognized during a regular meeting of the Arlington City Council in March, 2015.
