Each year the Arlington Police Department hosts an awards ceremony to honor the dedication and extraordinary accomplishments of our police employees. WFAA-TV sports anchor Dale Hansen hosted the lunchtime celebration, which occurred at HighPoint Church yesterday. This deserving group of honorees - both nominees and award recipients - went above and beyond their job responsibilities during 2013 to serve the citizens of Arlington. The awards ceremony was our opportunity to thank all of our police employees - sworn and professional staff-, and to honor the high achievements of the honorees.
During the celebration, we honored a school resource officer for his unwavering dedication during and after work hours to students and his peers, a homicide detective for his invaluable communication skills and detailed work product, and a rookie officer with heightened investigation skills early in her career. A crime analyst with an unwavering attention to the details of investigations repeatedly provided information that helped detectives solve criminal cases. The Domestic Crimes sergeant's compassionate supervision, dedication to victims, and accessibility to social service groups and other law enforcement agencies made him the Supervisor of the Year.

The Arlington Police Department's Annual Awards program is named for John V. McMillan, a Tarrant county businessman and philanthropist who established a tradition of giving back. McMillan was a founding member of the Fort Worth Police Officers' Award Foundation. He died in 2001. His daughter, Jeri McMillan Anfin, shared her father's passion for family and community, began sponsoring the awards program in 2004, and died in 2007. Larry Anfin continues to the tradition for his family today.
