The City of Grand Prairie reports one West Nile Virus positive mosquito sample. This brings the total to 9 positive mosquito samples this season in Grand Prairie. The City's Environmental Services Department will ground spray the following area for two consecutive nights on Thursday, August 15th and Friday, August 16th, starting at 10 p.m.

The area is bound by Beatty Dr. and Kirby Creek Dr. on the north, Corn Valley Rd. on the east, S. Carrier Pkwy. and Corn Valley Rd. on the south, and S. Carrier Pkwy. on the west. Click here for aerial map.

Residents in this area are advised to stay indoors, keep pets inside, and cover fish ponds during that time. Spraying will be rescheduled if wind speeds are above 10 mph or in the event of rain. Maps of this area are available at www.gptx.org.
All Grand Prairie residents are asked to help eliminate the areas that mosquitoes need to breed by emptying, removing or covering any receptacle that can hold water, and keeping swimming pools properly treated and chemically balanced.

To prevent mosquito bites, residents are advised to use an insect repellent containing at least 30 percent DEET (lower concentration for children) and stay indoors at dawn and dusk.
