This coming Saturday, January 12th, you can help the City plan for the future of New York Avenue! This important street is a key north-south linkage between the Entertainment District, the Great Southwest Industrial District, the General Motors Assembly Plant, and the IH-20 employment center. The New York Avenue Corridor Strategy will focus on the section of New York Avenue between Abram Street and Arkansas Lane. The project is intended to generate ideas and identify key goals and strategies to create a comprehensive vision to maximize the Corridor's potential for redevelopment. Project goals include creating a functional corridor for all users, providing the necessary guidance to direct public and private investments in the corridor that leverage resources, and supporting strong neighborhoods that add value and improved quality of life for the East Arlington residents.
Public involvement is an important component of the project. The City has formed an advisory committee to provide local stakeholder input, review recommendations and act as a project liaison to the public. Committee members represent the interests of East Arlington Renewal and other neighborhood groups, community organizations, local schools, area churches, local business leaders and affected property owners, as well as members of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, US Pan Asian-American Chamber of Commerce and the Tarrant County Asian American Chamber of Commerce.
Four Public Open Houses will be held over the course of the project; the first one is this coming Saturday. "It's important that we have input from the community to create a vision that accurately represents the East Arlington residents, businesses, schools and churches. Spanish, Vietnamese, and sign language interpreters will be available at the meeting to ensure everyone has the ability to participate in this process,' said Project Manager Douglas McDonald.
The City would like to hear your opinions and ideas about the Corridor! Please visit the website below for more information.
