This summer, Arlington Police Explorers shared an important safety message with other teens. Traffic crashes are a leading cause of death for people age 15-20. What is most important to the community is that these types of crashes can be prevented.

With this message, teen members of Police Explorer Post #602 collaborated with the Arlington Police Department to produce a video highlighting the dangers of underage drinking. In the opening scene, actors perform a scene showing a teen leaving a house party that included alcohol. At the end of the party, the teen driver climbs behind the wheel of a car and is met with tragic consequences.

During this 3 ½-minute video production, Police Explorers step forward to articulate some startling crash statistics. More than 10,000 people died in alcohol related crashes in the U.S. in 2010, said one teen. Another member stated traffic crashes are the number one cause of death among teenagers.

This video has made its debut on the Arlington Police Department 's YouTube channel and viewership continues to increase. " The young teenagers who volunteered to participate in this educational video are speaking to their peers about the dangers of underage drinking," said Sgt. Christopher Cook, who produced the video for the Arlington Police Department. " These deadly crashes are completely preventable. It is our hope that the message about the dangers of underage drinking speaks to teenagers and young adults."

Police Explorer Post #602 is the longest running Explorer Post in Texas. Membership is open to anyone age 14 to 20 who is interested in a career in law enforcement. Affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America Learning for Life Program, Explorers support the Arlington Police Department in many ways.
