The City of Grand Prairie is reporting one human case of West Nile Virus. This is the first human case this season in Grand Prairie. Additionally, two new West Nile Virus positive mosquito samples were reported on July 31. This brings the total to seven positive mosquito samples this season in Grand Prairie.

The City's Environmental Services Department will ground spray the following areas for two consecutive nights on Thursday, August 1st and Friday, August 2nd, starting at 10 p.m.:

• Area 1: This area is bound by E. Pioneer Pkwy. on the north, S. Beltline Rd. on the east, Brandon St. and SE 8th St. on the south, and S. Carrier Pkwy. on the west.
• Area 2: This area is bound by Westcott Dr., Starbridge L., Browning Ln., and Newberry St. on the north, E. Bardin Rd. on the east, Camp Wisdom Rd. on the south, and Robinson Rd. on the west.
• Area 3: This area is bound by Polo Rd on the north, Matthew Rd. on the east, the Joe Pool Dam on the south, and Lakeridge Pkwy. on the west.

Residents in these areas are advised to stay indoors, keep pets inside, and cover fish ponds during those times. Spraying will be rescheduled if wind speeds are above 10 mph or in the event of rain. Maps of these areaa are available at www.gptx.org/FightTheBite.

All Grand Prairie residents are asked to help eliminate the areas that mosquitoes need to breed by emptying, removing or covering any receptacle that can hold water, and keeping swimming pools properly treated and chemically balanced.

To prevent mosquito bites, residents are advised to use an insect repellent containing at least 30 percent DEET (lower concentration for children) and stay indoors at dawn and dusk.
