The City of Grand Prairie reports four West Nile Virus positive mosquito samples and will ground spray the following areas for two consecutive nights on Thursday, July 25th and Friday, July 26th, starting at 10 p.m.
- Area 1 - This area is bound by Fish Creek on the north, S. Beltline Road on the east; Newberry Street, Payne Parkway and San Jacinto Drive on the south; and S. Carrier Parkway on the west. Aerial Map (PDF)
- Area 2 - This area is bound by Wendy Drive on the north; S. Carrier Parkway on the east; Westchester Parkway on the south; and Robinson Road on the west. Aerial Map (PDF)
- Area 3 - This area is bound by Wislow Drive and Slaton Drive on the north; Sheffield Drive, Goodnight Trail and Embers Trail on the east; Kingswood Boulevard and Palmer Trail on the south; and Emerson Drive and King Harbor Court on the west. Aerial Map (PDF)
- Area 4 - This area is bound by E. Warrior Trail on the north; SE 8th Street and Edelweiss Drive on the east; Chestnut Drive and Thornbush Dr. on the south; and Christopher Street, Kirby Creek Drive and Hummingbird Drive on the west. Aerial Map (PDF)
Residents in these areas are advised to stay indoors, keep pets inside, and cover fish ponds during those times. Spraying will be rescheduled if wind speeds are above 10 mph or in the event of rain. Maps of these areas are available at www.gptx.org.
All Grand Prairie residents are asked to help eliminate the areas that mosquitoes need to breed by emptying, removing or covering any receptacle that can hold water.
To prevent mosquito bites, residents are advised to use an insect repellent containing at least 30 percent DEET (lower concentration for children) and stay indoors at dawn and dusk.
The City of Grand Prairie conducts regular tests on mosquito samples throughout the city
as part of its West Nile Virus surveillance program.
