A group of talented Sam Houston High School students will participate Friday in the Viva Technology program sponsored the General Motors Foundation at Remynse Church in Arlington.
Viva Technology is a national K-12 education program where students undergo STEM - science, technology, engineering and math - challenges that incite students' interest in STEM and inform them of potential STEM careers.
During the Sam Houston Viva Technology program, students will be challenged to construct an earthquake tower and also a beam bridge. The earthquake tower will be tested as a separate challenge. Sam Houston students will form teams, and each team will be paired with local college students. For many of these young scholars, this program is a "dream come true."
The Arlington ISD continues to have a strong commitment to science and technology instruction, as the district announced in August that it has partnered with The University of Texas at Arlington for a new STEM Academy that will open in August 2015 at Martin High School.
