A team of Push America/Journey of Hope cyclists on a 4,000-mile trek across country made a celebratory stop in Arlington Friday, where they were greeted at City Hall by Deputy City Manager Theron Bowman and representatives from the Mayor's Committee on People with Disabilities.

After reading a proclamation, Dr. Bowman playfully encouraged the riders to eat a hearty lunch before playing a wheelchair basketball game against the 7-time national champion Movin' Mavs of UT Arlington.

The team featured 20 cyclists on this year's cross country tour, as well as 12 crew members. The crew members drive the vehicles and handle all logistics for stopping points, food, water, and shelter for the cyclists.

With the combined efforts of sponsors and individual team members, this year's Journey of Hope will raise more than $500,000 on behalf of people with disabilities. Push America and Pi Kappa Phi have raised more than $15 million to date and continue to be on the cutting edge of the disability movement.

This summer marked the 17th consecutive year the City of Arlington will host a team of cyclists from Pi Kappa Phi fraternity.
