Arlington residents cast their ballots Saturday, and the results are in.
With a majority vote, residents approved a $663.1 million school bond package for Arlington ISD. The package includes new facilities such as science labs and fine art spaces.
Grand Prairie resident Kecia Mays won a position on the AISD School Board as a result of the election.
The election results also brought familiarity to Arlington.
Residents re-elected incumbents Robert Shepard of District 6 and Jimmy Bennett of District 7 for their at-large two-year positions on City Council. Councilmembers Charlie Parker and Sheri Capehart were also re-elected from Districts 1 and 2, respectively.
Voters also agreed on a Street Maintenance Sales Tax renewal to fund various road projects. The four-year renewal begins Jan. 1, 2015 and expires Dec. 31, 2019.
Among other projects, the renewal will help seal cracks on the roads to prevent water infiltration, Mindy Carmichael, said Assistant Director of Public Works and Transportation.
Carmichael believes elections, such as the one Saturday, give residents an opportunity to make an impact on the City.
"Through an election, citizens can link their concerns with the needs of their community, she said"
