Changes are coming to Great Southwest Parkway and the public has a chance to influence the redesign.

Arlington's Department of Public Works and Transportation is hosting a project briefing at 6 p.m. Thursday at Arlington City Hall, 101 W. Abram Street, to share information about the design plans for improvements to Great Southwest Parkway, from east Avenue E to Abram Street. There will be a short presentation followed by a question and answer session.

Once the roadway is completed, trucks will have easier access to businesses, including the Great Southwest Industrial Park, the largest such park in North Texas.

"We are trying to improve truck traffic in this area," said Daniel Burnham, project engineer for the City of Arlington. "The goal is to get feedback at this meeting from property owners or the business owners as to what is going to best suit their business."

Improvements include rebuilding the concrete street, changing median openings and driveways to better accommodate truck traffic, and upgrading water and sewer lines. City officials are expecting the changes, which will begin in 2015, to help reinvigorate the area.
