YMCA of Arlington Names Roberto E. Aguirre as New President and CEO
The board of directors of the YMCA of Arlington is pleased to announce, after a nationwide search through the YMCA of the USA, that Robert E. Aguirre has accepted the position of president and CEO.
Aguirre comes to Arlington from the YMCA of Abilene (TX) where he served as President and CEO since 2007. During his tenure in Abilene his accomplishments include developing and strategically implementing a vision for membership growth that resulted in increasing membership from 2,150 to 8,250 in a five-year period. During this same period cash reserves increased from zero to $310,000, and annual support increased by 15 percent.
Aguirre currently is organizing a capital campaign for the YMCA of Abilene with a projected goal of $5 million. To date he has already obtained $3 million in commitments from community supporters.
With 27 years of service, Aguirre has worked with large, mid-size and small YMCAs. His experience includes District Vice President of Central Florida from 2005-2007 and Vice President of Operations at the YMCA of Central New Mexico from 1998-2005. He also served in management roles for the YMCA of Greater El Paso, YMCA of Greater San Antonio and YMCA of Greater Houston.
Aguirre is a coach/mentor with YMCA Minority Executive Development Institute and a member of the steering committee for the Y-USA Hispanic/Latino Leadership Network.
He says his continued professional success is the result of his ability to create and communicate a strategic vision, work with community partners and develop high functioning teams of staff and volunteers who understand and care about the communities they serve.
"We are impressed and excited about his leadership in his current and previous positions,' says Claude Cunningham, chairman of the board for the YMCA of Arlington. "He has a vision about the Y about which we are all excited. We look forward to his arrival.'
Aguirre will join the YMCA of Arlington on January 7, 2013.
