First responders regularly go into dangerous situations and make personal sacrifices for the safety of others. In recognition of their hard work, hundreds of police officers, firefighters, and officials from state and federal agencies will be honored this weekend at First Responders Appreciation Day at Cowboys Stadium. During pre-game and halftime ceremonies Sunday, December 2, 2012, when the Dallas Cowboys play the Philadelphia Eagles these brave men and women will receive special acknowledgement.
The pre-game ceremony will include a tribute to first responders who have died in the line of duty. Arlington Police Officer Craig Gordon Story, badge #2117, will be one of those honored.
On January 13, 2010, Officer Story died in a two-vehicle crash that occurred as he was conducting traffic enforcement. The seven-year veteran was driving his motorcycle when a school bus turned in front of him, causing a crash during which his motorcycle caught fire. He died upon impact.
Officer Story had spent the majority of his life in Wichita Falls, Texas. He graduated from Rider High School in 1994, and received a Bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Midwestern State University in 2001. Officer Story was the proud husband of Danielle Story, who was pregnant at the time of his death. The couple, who had married for more than nine years, also had a 2-year-old son.
Officer Story joined the Arlington Police Department in May 2002, as a member of Class #24. During his time in Arlington, he was assigned to patrol and was a Field Training Officer (FTO). As a FTO, he trained approximately 15 new police recruits. Officer Story was also a member of the Tactical Unit, nominated as East District Officer of the Year in 2005 and Employee of the Month in July 2009. He joined the Motors Unit in October 2009.
The dedication Officer Story showed to the Arlington Police Department and City of Arlington will never be forgotten.
