The Levitt Pavilion kicks off the Baylor Orthopedic & Spine Hospital 2016 Summer Concert Series May 27 with a three-day Downtown Arlington music festival, a new title sponsor, a new Family Movie Night and some musical heavy hitters in its free concert line-up.

Summer concerts open with the annual Downtown Arlington Center Stage Music Festival on Memorial Day weekend, May 27-29. For this year's festival, downtown restaurants who also offer live music will have artists playing throughout the day leading up to the Levitt's evening concerts. Downtown participants and their music schedules are being finalized and will be available on the Levitt website later this spring. In addition to live music, the Levitt will have a variety of food trucks in rotation during the weekend.

On the Levitt stage, the wildly popular Texas psych/pop choir, The Polyphonic Spree, performs on opening night at 8:30 p.m. May 27. On May 28 at 8:30 p.m., the Levitt welcomes Grammy Award-winning classic rockers, Blood, Sweat & Tears, featuring American Idol runner-up Bo Bice. Closing the three-day music festival will be regional punk/pop favorites, Bowling for Soup, at 8:30 p.m. May 29.

After Memorial Day weekend, the Levitt has a diverse concert schedule of returning artists and bands making their Levitt debuts. Levitt audience favorites include country artist Dale Watson, blues diva Ruthie Foster, triple-threat fiddles from The Quebe Sisters Band, the eclectic sounds of Spoonfed Tribe, New Orleans funk from Big Sam's Funky Nation, Grammy Award-winning country artist Rick Trevino, West Texas poet Radney Foster and a return visit from the World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra, who performed one of the Levitt's most popular concerts last summer.

Artists making their debut at the Levitt this summer include rock group Micky & the Motorcars, Indie band Knox Hamilton, The Verve Pipe, known for their 1996 hit single, The Freshmen; Texas blues guitarist Buddy Whittington, Tejano band La Tropa F, and Deep Blue Something, best known for their 1993 hit, Breakfast at Tiffany's.

The Levitt's free summer concerts are Thursday through Sunday nights, May 27 through July 17. After the opening weekend festival, concerts begin at 8 p.m. until July 7, when they will start at 8:30 p.m. as Texas summer temperatures rise.

New for this summer are the Levitt's free Family Movie Night on Wednesdays June 8 through July 6. Movies suitable for all ages will be shown on the Levitt's giant video screen at 7:30 p.m. Not all of the movies have been confirmed, but Spy Kids will be the June 15 movie, and School of Rock is set for June 22. The new Family Movie Nights are made possible by a grant from Women Inspiring Philanthropy.

The Levitt's Children's Concert Series will continue this summer with performances at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesdays June 8-29. Children's Concerts include Big Bang Boom June 8, Secret Agent 23 Skidoo June 15, The Boogers June 22, and Terrance Simien and Creole for Kidz on June 29.

Levitt audiences are seated on an open lawn on blankets or lawn chairs. Picnics and coolers are welcome, but no glass containers, please. Free parking is available in lots all around the pavilion.
