Saturday Storytime with Arlington Public Library

Looking for something do in Arlington the whole family can enjoy? Join Arlington Public Library's staff for special family storytime on Saturday, January 9, 2016! Come explore the world through stories, engage in songs and rhymes, participate in fun activities, and check out books. This program takes place at the Southeast Branch Library from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. (900 S.E. Green Oaks Blvd. Arlington, TX 76018) and is free and open to the public and no registration is required. Arlington Public Library hopes to see you there!

Arlington Public Library's Read Aloud Hour

Read Aloud Hour is what it sounds like-an hour of enjoying the communal experience of being read aloud to. We all love stories! Short, long, funny, sad. Stories are meant to be shared, so we invite your family to spend an hour at the library on Sunday afternoons listening to a story unfold. There will be drawing materials and a "tinker" table for listeners that need to keep busy, but the main event is a selection of favorite children's chapter books being read by book-loving librarians. Read Aloud Hour takes place this Sunday, January 10 from 3-4 p.m. at the Southeast Branch Library is recommended for families with children in grades 1-5 and is free and open to the public.

The Jiggle Butt Run

This 5K for women of all ages, abilities and sizes fun and successful fundraiser benefiting SafeHaven of Tarrant County. Last year's run resulted in a record-breaking $30,000 donation to SafeHaven. The donations received from this annual event are significant in achieving SafeHaven's mission to end domestic violence through safety, support, prevention and social change. The 2016 Arlington race takes place at E.H. Hereford University Center at The University of Texas at Arlington.

Jiggle Butt Run Race day schedule:

  • 7 a.m. - Registration, Indoor Expo and packet pick-up at University Center
  • 8:30 a.m. - Pre-race warmup inside the University Center
  • 9 a.m. - Race starts in front of College Park Center on Spaniolo Drive
  • Awards will be handed out in University Center immediately after race.

Modern Masters from the Guild Hall Collection

This exhibition will feature work by 60 artists including Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Jackson Pollock, Roy Lichtenstein, Willem de Kooning, and Robert Motherwell. Modern art has brought a fresh and unconventional approach to the creative community, expressing the loves, hates, ideas, beliefs, interests, passions, strengths, and weaknesses of a generation emerging in the mid-Twentieth Century. This exhibit will explore traditional mediums of art, outside the box, and how the art world embraced the work that represents a movement that changed the face of fine art in America. The exhibit will be open to the public until Sunday, February 21, 2016. Arlington Museum of Art is located at 201 West Main Street Arlington, TX 76010. Ringside: Memories of World Class Championship Wrestling Exhibit

The wrestlers. Their extravagant costumes. Overly exuberant fans yelling for their favorites. The referee who wasn't entirely necessary. The old-time arenas that smelled of sweat. Ringside: Memories of World Class Championship Wrestling showcases more than 30 photos taken by Cirrus Bonneau, who spent Monday nights in 1982 and 1983 at the Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth documenting the interplay between the costumed stars and their captivated audiences. The exhibit is free to the public and runs through Jan. 16 at the UT Arlington Central Library, 702 Planetarium Place. Call UTA Libraries Special Collections at 817-272-3393 for more information.
