As a way of eliminating breeding sites for mosquitoes that can carry West Nile Virus (WNV), the City of Arlington, in conjunction with a private contractor, is continuing its prevention efforts by aggressively trapping, testing and larviciding in strategic locations.
At press time, there are no reports of any positive human cases or positive mosquito tests within city limits. Currently, there are approximately 50 larvicide and static mosquito trap locations in Arlington. Twenty-one are tested weekly.
The mosquitoes from each trap are counted, frozen and chemically tested to see if they are WNV or Saint Louis encephalitis virus (SLEV) carriers.
