4,000+ Texas Rangers fans in search of a history-making experience. Must love glow sticks. Spelling skills required.
Details
On March 30, the City will team up with the Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau for the "Let's GLO Rangers Rally," a free fan celebration of the team's upcoming 40th Anniversary.
The first 4,000 fans to arrive at Rangers Ballpark Parking Lot B that evening will receive blue glowsticks, which they will use for illumination, as they gather into a giant formation spelling R-A-N-G-E-R-S. The dramatic results will be captured on film via helicopter and shown on the Jumbotron on Opening Day.
Besides celebrating the team's milestone birthday, Let's GLO Rangers is poised to make history- if enough people show up, the event could be a candidate for a Guinness world record as the most people ever gathered to spell out a team name with glowsticks.
"The Texas Rangers story is forever part of Arlington's story. As the team and franchise have grown, so has this city," said Rebecca Rodriguez, marketing and communication manager for the City of Arlington. "Our Rangers pride runs deep and we're thrilled to show our world-class pride."
"The pride and excitement of Rangers fans in Arlington is always electrifying," said Decima Cooper, Arlington Convention & Visitors Bureau director of public relations. "We wanted to give them a chance to show it on a grand scale!"
The Texas Rangers, the current American League champions and 2010-2011 World Series contenders, debuted at Arlington Stadium in the spring of 1972. The 2012 season will kick off with a match against the Chicago White Sox on April 6.
