The City of Arlington ended its 2012 Fiscal Year with the highest sales tax revenue in the City's history.

According to data from the State Comptroller's Office, Arlington's General Fund sales tax receipts were $50,517,376 from October 2011 to September 2012. This is a growth for the year of 4.8 percent. The September 2012 receipts, which the City receives in November, were up 1.9 percent from those in September 2011.

"The revenue generated by our Entertainment District activities, new shopping and dining opportunities, and the general improvement of the economy have allowed Arlington to reach this milestone,' said Mayor Robert Cluck. "This tells a very positive story about Arlington's economy.'

As illustrated by the chart below, Arlington has seen steady growth in sales tax in recent years.

Sales tax is one of the largest revenue sources for the City of Arlington, second only to ad valorem property tax revenue which generates about $75 million a year for the General Fund.

The sales tax estimate for FY 2013 is projected at a 3 percent increase at 2.1 million.
