A thousand trees will be planted in a matter of hours by volunteers Saturday morning as part of an effort to restore the trees lost in the April tornado outbreak.

The volunteers will gather at Martin High School and will team up with City of Arlington crews to plant the trees in yards across southwest Arlington for the Arlington Tornado Re-LEAF event.

Residents living in the tornado impact zone were eligible to receive up to four free 10-gallon trees. The trees, which are from a variety of L.E.A.F. approved species, were provided through a $40,000 donation by the Arlington Tomorrow Foundation. Other donors and partners for the event include Lowe's Charitable and Educational Foundation, L.E.A.F., Arlington Parks and Recreation, Keep Arlington Beautiful, Arlington Southwest Little League, Starbucks and Krispy Kreme.
