Free Concerts at Levitt Pavilion for Performing Arts
Downtown Arlington is going to be buzzing again this weekend as Levitt Pavilion's center stage hosts three dynamic artists. People from across the Metroplex continue to enjoy these free concerts, so bring your lawn chair and join the party.
Friday: Big Sam's Funky Nation - Funk-charged rock to get the party started.
Saturday: Eleven Hundred Springs - Home-grown, foot-stompin' Texas music.
Sunday: Jeff Johnson - Pop/rock Christian music with a message.
Fly Like an Eagle
Arlington area youth ages 8-17 have a chance to fly the friendly skies during Saturday's Young Eagles Flight Rally hosted by Environmental Experimental Association (EEA) Chapter 34 at Arlington Municipal Airport, 5000 South Collins Street. Check out Agusta Westland's static display of the Tilt Rotor helicopter. Each young person will receive a certificate making them an official Young Eagle.
Backyard Composting Classes
The City of Arlington Master Composter volunteers hold composting classes the second Saturday of every month at the composting display in the Science Center's parking lot area. The class includes demonstrations of proper pile building and a worm compost bin. Attendees will receive a free book. No need to register, just show up. Dress for the weather. Register for the Summer Reading Corps
Looking for a reading club for your youngster? Register this Saturday at the Literacy House for Reading Corps, an Arlington Public Library program designed to impart a lifelong love of reading to children and foster the development of literacy skills. Pre-K 4 through 3rd grade students are matched with a Reading Corps buddy. Students will read, write and participate in various activities related to specific reading skills. To register, please bring a copy of your student's most current report card (spring 2013).
Living a Healthy Life
Fitnessistas is an eight-week program that covers fitness, nutrition, body image and language, media literacy, goal setting, and more. A portion of each of the lessons will be dedicated to running, and the 12th class will take place at our 4th annual "Book It for Literacy 5K/Mile Fun Run" on Saturday, August 3, at River Legacy Park. Fitnessistas will receive a special race T-shirt and participation medal. Registration is being held at the Literacy House, 101 E. North Street.
