Hats go off to 4th graders, Camryn Booth and Jade Williams who took it upon themselves one weekend to raise money for a great cause.
Delaney 4th graders have been collecting aluminum cans all year to donate money to different charities.
In January, after hearing Ms. Hester speak about her granddaughter Brooke, the 4th graders wanted to help pay for her stay at the Ronald McDonald House in New York. Last year, Brooke was diagnosed with stage 4, high risk neuroblastoma, which is a form of cancer, and has been at the RMH for 8 months now at $35 per day.
The students used their math skills to figure out how much they would need to collect to pay for a day, a week, and a month's stay.
Camryn and Jade came to school one Monday with money they had raised by making small purses and selling them. They even made one for Ms. Hester to give to Brooke! The girls said they set out a table in their neighborhood, made a poster, and went to work.
Other grade levels have now had Ms. Hester come speak to their classes and this month the school is attempting to fill a trailer with cans!
Delaney staff and students have some of the biggest hearts I have seen. These students validate the quote from Martin Luther King Jr. that states, "Everybody can be great...because any-body can serve. You don't have to have a college degree to serve. You don't have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love."
We are so proud of these students!
