Arlington Police Chief Theron Bowman received the Commission on Accreditation of Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) certification Monday morning during a ceremony in the West District Police Station community room.
CALEA establishes commission requirements that hold law enforcement agencies to a high standard, helping police departments become more efficient and provide better service to citizens.
The Arlington Police Department recently received its 7thconsecutive re-accreditation and for the first time was also awarded the Accreditation with Excellence.
The Accreditation with Excellence is the highest honor awarded through the certification process and shows that the Police Department takes a forward-thinking approach to professionalism and law enforcement.
"I am honored to represent an agency that is filled with men and women, whose superior character and quality stands out among the best," said Chief Bowman. He added that community support plays a vital role in the success of any Department. "Nothing is possible without the support of our citizens."
