Library Celebrates 90th Birthday & Summer Reading Kickoff

Come to a birthday party to celebrate the 90th Anniversary of the Arlington Public Library! The celebration takes place Saturday, June 1, at 11:30 a.m. on the Patio at the George W. Hawkes Central Library, 101 E. Abram. Meet Read, the bookworm, listen to hit music of the decades, and enjoy a special cake.

Summer Reading Club 2013, June 1 - July 26, kicks off at the same time, so be sure to pick up reading logs and get information about summer reading programs for everyone in the family. Summer reading is essential for students to maintain grade level reading skills between school terms. Incentives, prizes and special programs make it a part of summer fun. Each reading program has a unique focus this year.

Visit the Smithsonian Without Leaving Arlington

The Arlington Museum of Art is proud to present its summer exhibition Harlem Renaissance: A Celebration of Art & Culture. The exhibit will feature selected paintings from a private local collector and will include pieces from artists such as Jacob Lawrence, Charles White, and Aaron Douglas and sculptures from Richmond Barthé. The exhibit will be held in conjunction with a show curated by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibits Service (SITES), William H. Johnson: An American Modern and together will be one of the largest collections of African-American art shown in North Texas.

The Arlington Museum of Art is also proud to present Arlington's first Smithsonian art exhibition, William H. Johnson: An American Modern. This exhibit, curated by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibits Services (SITES), brings 20 pieces of Johnson's work including paintings, drawings, and pictures. Shown in conjunction with the Museum's Harlem Renaissance exhibit, it will be one of the largest collections of African-American art shown in North Texas.

Hot Rods Invade UT-Arlignton

Widely considered to be the finest high-end automotive tour in the world, the Hot Rod Power Tour embodies everything that HOT ROD Magazine has represented throughout its 65 year history. The seven-day, seven-city tour will wind its way from Arlington, TX at the Kick-Off and will end in North Concord, NC.

The event will attract over 4,700 cars, grab the attention of over 75,000 spectators, travel over 50 of the nation's premiere automotive and aftermarket manufacturers and generate a worldwide buzz in the automotive enthusiast market. All makes and models of hot rods, street rods, custom trucks and street machines will be along for the ride.

Kansas in Concert at College Park Center

The legendary rock group Kansas breezes into the College Park Center like "Dust in the Wind."

Kansas released its first album in 1974. With classic hits such as, "Carry on Wayward Son", "Two for the Show", "Dust in the Wind," and "Point of Know Return," this one-time garage band from Topeka, KS, has remained a fixture of Classic Rock radio.
