Summer Swim Class Registration Now Open

Registration for outdoor aquatic programs will begin on Tuesday, March 1. Private and group lessons will be offered at Allen Bolden, Bad Konigshofen, and Woodland West outdoor pools, as well as the Hugh Smith Recreation Center's indoor pool.

Classes will be offered for those ranging from 6 months of age through adulthood. The classes will be instructed by American Red Cross Certified Water Safety Instructors. Deck Managers are certified lifeguards and experienced Water Safety Instructors and will be present for all aquatic activities. All of the City of Arlington's aquatic programs follow the American Red Cross Swim and Water Safety guidelines.

The cost for 10 group lessons is $60 and the cost for five private lessons is $100. All classes will range from 25 to 40 minutes in length and the number of classes per session offered will vary based on holiday observances and other circumstances. No facility card is necessary to sign up for the lessons.

"Swimming lessons aren't just about teaching someone how to swim," said Erin Ward, Aquatics Program Coordinator for the City of Arlington. "There's also important aquatic safety lessons that are taught that really help in lowering the number of accidental drownings and help raise awareness about drowning prevention."

Outdoor swimming lessons do not require the purchase of a Parks and Recreation facility cards however, a facility card is required for participation in swimming lessons at the Hugh Smith Indoor Pool. Facility cards are available for purchase at any of the City's recreation centers or the indoor pool front counter.
