Salvation Army Red Kettle Challenge

Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams and members of City Council will be ringing the red bell Saturday, December 12, 2015 at the Walmart on Randol Mill for the Salvation Army Red Kettle Challenge starting at 10 a.m. The challenge started in 2009 and allows mayors from Arlington, Mansfield, Dalworthington Gardens, Pantego, and Kennedale to compete in raising funds for the Salvation Army. The challenge supports the organization throughout the entire year, not just around the holidays. Arlington Public Library's Star Wars Extravaganza

The newest installment in the Star Wars saga is just within reach, and Arlington residents can begin celebrating early at the Arlington Public Library's Star Wars Extravaganza, Saturday, December 12, from 12" 2 p.m., at the Southwest Branch Library. Fans young and old are invited to come in costume and pose for photos with Stormtroopers from the local 501st Legion chapter, try their hand at Star Wars trivia and bean bag toss games, make Star Wars crafts, and enjoy a Star Wars-themed storytime. One lucky attendee will walk away with tickets to a showing of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and other Star Wars materials will be given out during the program. This event is free and open to the public. No registration is necessary.

Breakfast with Santa

He's making a list, and checking it twice. He's going to find out who's naughty and nice. Santa Clause is coming to town! And he's stopping by Cliff Nelson Recreation Center to enjoy breakfast and other holiday activities with guests on Saturday, December 12th from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Breakfast with Santa is a great holiday event for the whole family. Children will enjoy making holiday crafts and visiting with someone special, too. Space is limited, so mark your calendars today and make this a holiday tradition! Happy Holidays Gift Market at Arlington Museum of Art

Gifts galore await you at the Happy Holidays Gift Market, brought to you by 817ArtsAlliance at the Arlington Museum of Art (AMA) this Saturday and Sunday (Dec. 12-13, 2015). Local artisans and collectors from a variety of backgrounds will share their enthusiasm for what they create and collect with all that are interested. A wide range of finds are expected at this year's market such as ceramics, jewelry, artisanal soap, photos, holiday decorations, art, glass creations and fiber/cloth goodies. There is free parking in Downtown Arlington and as a gift to the community for the holiday season, admission to the Happy Holidays Gift Market at AMA is free.

UTA Maverick Dance Company Presents: VIA DANCE

Maverick Dance Company presents VIA DANCE, a collection of new, entertaining and progressive dance works by faculty, guest, and student choreographers. Artistic Director, Amanda Jackson, and Associate Artistic Director, Meredith Knight, are joined by Dallas-based guest choreographer, Danielle Georgiou, internationally recognized guest sound designer, John Osburn, and student choreographers, Bri Bowens, Randi Kosik, Jonathan Switzenberg, and Brittany Wachsmann. VIA DANCE includes a variety dance styles including contemporary ballet, modern, musical theatre, and tap, and runs December 11-13, 2015. Arlington Proud Presents Holiday Festival Pop Up Art Show

Join Create Arlington for its first ever, Holiday Pop Up Art Show, featuring local and emerging artists, vendors and musicians this Saturday, December 12, 2015 from 12-8 p.m. The Pop Up will be at the Plaza Central Mall (Formerly Six Flags Mall) at the corner of Hwy 360 & Division. Texas Christkindl Market

The Texas Christkindl Market is one of the largest open-air markets in the Southwest. Inspired by Arlington's relationship with its German sister city, Bad Königshofen, the market is in its fifth year at Globe Life Park and will be open through December 23, 2015. It features vendors, selling handmade goods, decor and ornaments, along with German food and drinks. Live music, a Kinder Market, and pictures with Santa are also part of the fun. Admission and parking are free, but various activities, including many in the Kinder Market, are for an additional charge. Holiday in the Park at Six Flags Over Texas

Six Flags Over Texas, the Thrill Capital of Texas, transforms into the "Cheer" capital this holiday season. For 30 years, Holiday in the Park has spread holiday joy to families. This year the tradition continues as this magical event shines even brighter. On select dates through January 3, 2016, SantaLand, the Holiday Tree of Trees Spectacular, The Frosty Snowhill, and more await guests during this memorable celebration. The seasonal fun doesn't stop there as five holiday shows, ranging from a Texas twist to a Victorian revue, will have guests singing and dancing along. After visitors catch a show, they can warm up at one of the six holiday campfires around the park, with a cup of hot cocoa, or with their own s'mores. Irving Berlin's White Christmas

Theatre Arlington is putting on their own rendition of the 1954 Paramount Pictures film, Irving Berlin's White Christmas. The musical adaption will feature seventeen of the original Irving Berlin classics, such as Sisters, Count Your Blessing Instead of Sheep, and White Christmas. The show will run December 4-20 on Thursdays at 7:30 p.m., Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Ticket prices are $25 for adults, $22 for seniors over 62 and students with a valid ID, and $20 per person for groups over 10 or more. Modern Masters from the Guild Hall Collection

This exhibition will feature work by 60 artists including Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Jackson Pollock, Roy Lichtenstein, Willem de Kooning, and Robert Motherwell. Modern art has brought a fresh and unconventional approach to the creative community, expressing the loves, hates, ideas, beliefs, interests, passions, strengths, and weaknesses of a generation emerging in the mid-Twentieth Century. This exhibit will explore traditional mediums of art, outside the box, and how the art world embraced the work that represents a movement that changed the face of fine art in America. Adventure to Santa at The Parks at Arlington

Adventure to Santa, a storytelling experience centered around Shrek characters and designed by Dreamworks Animation, returns to The American Dream City this holiday season at The Parks at Arlington! Just past the red cottage doors, Shrek and Donkey greet children and begin the interactive experience. Elves guide families through the next four rooms, where they design their own sleigh, go on a ride complete with pulsing seats and fans, compete in a virtual snowball fight, and meet Santa Claus. This event will be open to the public until Christmas Eve. This is a popular attraction at the mall, so be sure to book your reservation in advance by clicking here!

Ringside: Memories of World Class Championship Wrestling Exhibit

The wrestlers. Their extravagant costumes. Overly exuberant fans yelling for their favorites. The referee who wasn't entirely necessary. The old-time arenas that smelled of sweat. Ringside: Memories of World Class Championship Wrestling showcases more than 30 photos taken by Cirrus Bonneau, who spent Monday nights in 1982 and 1983 at the Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth documenting the interplay between the costumed stars and their captivated audiences. The exhibit is free to the public and runs through Jan. 16 at the UT Arlington Central Library, 702 Planetarium Place. Call UTA Libraries Special Collections at 817-272-3393 for more information.
