Skatepark Name to Honor Efforts by Cody Rocamontes Inc.
Last month, City Council approved a resolution to name the new skatepark at Randol Mill Park the "Cody Rocamontes Memorial Skatepark' in honor of the work by Cody Rocamontes Inc. to promote and support the development of safe and legal skate facilities in the City of Arlington. Since Cody' s death in 2009, CRI has advocated the need for and supported the development of public skateparks in Arlington through volunteer activities and fundraisers. Congratulations to CRI on this much-deserved honor!
Over 18 months of citizen action committee work and public meetings helped develop the Arlington Skatepark Strategy, which identified Randol Mill Park as an ideal location for a skatepark. The Mayor and Council approved a resolution authorizing the adoption of the Skate Park Strategy for the City of Arlington on October 18, 2011. One year later, the construction of Arlington' s first skatepark has begun!
The anticipated 6,500 square foot skatepark was designed in two phases by skatepark professionals at Spohn Ranch. Phase 1 amenities will include a hipped bank, manual pad with rail, flat bar, and Spohn' s signature "skateable art' pieces-the Curved Taco and Dragon Tail. The first phase will be open for play by December. The skatepark is funded through a Tony Hawk Foundation Grant, Arlington Tomorrow Funds, parks fees, and donations from Cody Rocamontes, Inc.
