The Arlington Historical Society and the Lucretia Council Chapter of the DAR are hosting a community fundraiser this weekend to help pay for fencing and gravestone repairs at the Historic Cemeteries located on Arkansas Lane.
The Spring Fling is set from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 7 at the Arlington Historic Cemeteries, located at 509 West Arkansas Lane. The event includes history tours, historical re-enactments, dowsing rod demonstrations, face painting, food trucks and more.
Descendants of some of the early pioneers buried here will unveil a banner to kick off the activities. Groups participating include Sons of American Revolution, Patriot Riders, Fort Worth Dragoons, Colonel M.T. Johnson Camp 1648 SCV and Daughter of Republic of Texas Charles Calvin McCoy Chapter.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the society's Arlington Historical Cemeteries restoration project.
The $60,000 project, announced in February, is set to be completed in three phases: fencing and security to protect the historic monuments from further vandalism and damages, gravestone restoration and an interactive history tour.
